FAQS
You've got questions - We've got answers
We’ve written a list of the questions we get asked all the time by customers. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please use the contact page to email us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Do you take up hems?
Yes we do. We normally charge $16 for jeans and $23 for suiting pants. Wider hems and protective tape can add to the cost.
What is your turnaround time?
We usually say a couple of days to a week. It depends on the complexity of the job and how much work our sewers need to get done that week.
Can you do same day alterations?
In some cases we can. It depends on the complexity of the job and if there is capacity to do it same day. Feel free to ask us the question and we can assess if it’s possible.
Can you alter formal gowns?
Yes we can! We can take up the hem, take in or let out the bodice etc.
Do you do invisible mending?
We cannot do ‘invisible mending’. We can repair tears and holes but the repair may still be visible from up close. We do patch and darns on jeans which are not necessarily invisible.
Do you custom make garments/items?
Yes we do, a few of our uniform customers only order custom made uniforms from us. These items include, shirts, pants, skirts and dresses. We can make other items such as aprons and tote bags too. Contact us to see how we can assist you.
How long does it take to order in an item?
We usually say a week to be safe. Some of our suppliers are lightning fast and some are snowed under due to the inconvenience of the pandemic and slow postage.
Do you have samples in store to try on?
Yes we do. We have a range of items in store for you to have a look at and try on. We can get samples ordered in from our suppliers if we don’t have what you are looking for.
If you have some specific garments you would like to try, please contact us so we can make sure we have everything you need.
Can you do embroidery?
Yes we can! We can do embroidery, screen printing, vinyl transfers and sublimation. We just need a high quality image of what you need.
Please allow 1 week for embroidery.
Do you do sewing lessons?
No we do not offer sewing lessons. One of our valued customers does teach sewing in the area. Her business is called ‘The Sewing School’.
Where are you located?
We are located at the corner of Chapel Street and Fullarton Road. We are the red brick building directly behind Mitre 10. We are located upstairs so please give us a call if you have accessibility issues and we can meet you downstairs.
Where can I park?
We do have under cover parking to the right of our front door. There is a sign that says ‘Norwood Sewing Centre Customer Car Park’. Please avoid parking in front of the roller door if you can.
